Roy Steele, International Handicapper, member of the Eclipse-Award winning team for live radio coverage of The Breeders Cup, takes an in-depth look at the evening card at Woodbine. Plus it's start of the HOCKEY season which should be a National holiday in Canada.

That Internationl experience will come into good use for this coming Sunday's STELLAR INTERNATIONAL CARD AT WOODBINE CANADA, with horses arriving from across the pond as we speak, jockeys too. Full card will be covered for Sunday's racing.

Along with tonites seeded Pick 4/5 pools.

123Racing Pick Six kicks off in Race 3. The wager which is alike to all handicapping contests.

I am in form here at Woodbine nailing the Pick 4 here last Weekend. Good Luck to all!

Huge prizemoney on offer with TWO PICK 5'S 50K/150K and TWO PICK 4'S 150K/250K all exotics have a 20 cent min. wager.
Horses from all corners of the planet will be contesting the stakes stacked card and I will have them all covered. Stay tuned!

Tonight, we have a nice wagering card live at Woodbine with seeded Pick 4/5 Pools. 50k/100k respectivley. Post Time 6:45pm ET.

All races are on the Tapeta main track, with temps at race time a BARMY 20c (68˚F). Main Track is racing FAST.

Fort Erie's season (Just down the QEW HWY) is coming to a close, so a fair sprinkling of horses from that track are competing at Woodbine, plus horses from Presque Isle Downs, which competes on the same surface.

Leading jock Da Silva is playing musical saddles to keep on top of the winners, plus the smaller barns are running into form. All of the above are covered in my selections.

The super Hi 5 wager is suspended until the weekend to ensure a bumper payout.

The 123Racing Pick 6 wager alike to all handicapping competitions starts in Race 5.

At Keeneland the G1 SHADEWELL TURF MILE Million dollar race goes in Race 9 with an international field. #4 MONDIALISTE - 6/1: looks the ticket. Well travelled 6yo has won The Woodbine Mile, second in the Breeders Cup Mile and only 2 months ago won the Arlington Million. Son of super sire Galileo who sired the first three home in the recent Arc is well placed to strike again in a G1.

Woodbine has seeded Pools in the Pick 5 and the early Pick 4.

Betting with Ellis Starr - October 8, 2016

Kelso Handicap - Race #5 at Belmont – Approximate Post Time 2:28 PM ET

Point Piper ships across the country from California by way of Washington State, coming off a stirring 5 length win in the Longacres Mile. He earned a career best 119 Equibase figure in that race then was flattered when the runner-up won a stakes in Pennsylvania. Mario Gutierrez comes in from California to ride for top trainer Hollendorfer and with the horse having earned 4 of his 5 career wins at a mile he should run big in this one-turn mile race. Tommy Macho also won his last start, at a mile, back in February. Rested since then, if he picks up where he left off with a 115 Equibase figure effort he and Point Piper should come together at the wire. Tamarkuz finished 2nd in the Grade 1 Forego at 7 furlongs in his most recent start, to multiple grade 1 stakes winner A. P. Indian, who is running on Friday at Keeneland hoping to punch his ticket to the Breeders' Cup Sprint. Meanwhile, Tamarkuz can improve off best race since coming to the U.S. back in June, 2015, and with Smith riding him back off a 116 figure effort he rounds out a trio that stands out by a mile over the other four entrants in this race.

Bet Point Piper to win at odds of 2 to 1 or higher. Make a smaller win bet on Tommy Macho at odds of 3 to 1 or more.

Play an exacta and trifecta box consisting of Point Piper, Tommy Macho and Tamarkuz.

Bonus Friday Edition of Betting with Ellis

Phoenix Stakes - Race #8 at Keeneland – Scheduled Post Time 4:57 PM ET

Alsvid can run a lot better than the 7th place effort he put in last year in this race. He ran the two best races of his career this spring and summer, on May 6 and July 2. He didn't run as well in California but that's a different kind of track and he's been working lights out since returning to the Commonwealth. With 15 wins in 41 races and $1.3 million in earnings if he's in the mood he can get the dough as his best race is every bit as good as the favorite's best race but he will go to post at much higher odds. A.P. Indian is the likely heavy favorite based on having won two grade 1 stakes wins in a row. He's just as probable as Alsvid and must be used on any exacta, trifecta, pick 3 or similar tickets played. A.P. Indian skipped a big race in New York last weekend on a muddy track to run on dry land here and although he finished 6th in last year's edition of the Phoenix he is a different horse at this point in his career and could earn career win #11. Ami's Flatter won the Commonwealth Stakes at Keeneland six months ago at the slightly lower Grade 3 level. It showed he likes the track and although a well beaten fifth in both starts since if he runs fresh today the same way he ran fresh in the sprint he could post the upset.

Bet Alsvid to win at odds of 8 to 5 or higher.

Play an exacta box consisting of Alsvid, A. P. Indian and Ami's Flatter.

Roy Steele, www.horsewhispererusa.com, takes in the Ten Race card at Woodbine Canada this afternoon.

I'm hitting 50% for the win, in the last two cards, looking to improve today.

Nice restricted stakes race for 2yo fillies, in Race 8

123Racing Pick 6 Wager, the wager similar to the Handicapping Competitions, starts in Race 5.

Woodbine offers 20 cent wagers on all its Exotic wagers, with seeded pools for the Pick 4 and 5 50k 100k respectivley.

With three selections each race recommend Win top selection the Box for Ex and Tri each Race.

The super Hi 5 Jackpot Wager Carryover increased to 308k after it was not won outright yesterday. Wager goes in Race 10 with a 20 cent min.

Weather Forecast for the afternoon is showers which may effect the turf racing although the drainage is excellent plus the Tapeata main track still runs true when wet.

Woodbine, however, will be looking to keep the turf track in tip-top condition for the forthcoming Pattison International Race in two weeks time. Some nice Europeans are making the trip always a good days racing.

Key Bets & Races for Saturday, October 1 including Santa Anita Pick 4

Rodeo Drive Stakes - Race #8 at Santa Anita–Approx. Post Time 4:00 PM PT, 7 PM ET

Avenge is a rapidly improving four year old coming off a pair of wins on turf and peaking at the right time. She just won the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes, the same race last year's Rodeo Drive runner-up (Elektrum) won and she gets Flavien Prat, who has ridden Avenge to four of her five career wins. Considering Avenge has the ability to lead early or sit just off the pacesetter, in this full field that means she should avoid traffic issues many of the others may encounter and that could be the ticket to earning her second graded stakes win in a row. Frenzified won 4 of 11 in her native Great Britain before making her U.S. debut in June. Feeling the effects of having been away from the races for seven months, she finished third in that comeback effort, but two races later she won the CTT & TOC Handicap rather easily, earning a 112 figure that is on par with the 111 and 113 figures that the 2012 and 2014 winners of this race earned and right there with the 113 and 108 figures Avenge earned in her last two starts. Like Avenge, Frenzified can also run close to the front, and from a ground saving inside post she should be in the thick of the action from start to finish. Generosidade posted the 71 to 1 upset this past March when beating males in the San Luis Rey Stakes on this turf course then finished second against males again in the San Juan Capistrano. Winless in three races since, Generosidade may be turning the corner back to top form following a fast closing second behind Frenzified. Last year, Elektrum won the John C. Mabee as a four year old shortly after an allowance level win then finished second in the 2015 Rodeo Drive following that win but is winless in six races since then. On the other hand, Elektrum was narrowly beaten in her two most recent starts, including when third behind Avenge in the Mabee so it would be foolish to leave out Elektrum as a contender when only a half-length short of victory in her most recent race. Decked Out has run nine times so far in 2016, all against three-year-olds. Her only win of the year came in a grade 3 stakes in April but her most recent effort, in the Del Mar Oaks, put her on the radar as a contender in the Rodeo Drive. In the Oaks Decked Out rallied from last of 10 and even though fifth and five paths wide into the stretch she missed catching the winner by a head on the wire. If I went deeper in my contender list, Zipessa, a grade 3 winner one before last, would be next.

Bet Avenge to win at odds of 5 to 2 or higher. Consider win bets, of smaller amounts, on Frenzified at odds of 7 to 2 or higher and on Generosidade at odds of 4 to 1 or higher.

Play an exacta consisting of Avenge, Frenzified, Generosidade, Decked Out, Elektrum and Zipessa.

Play an exacta consisting of Avenge over Frenzified, Generosidade, Decked Out, Elektrum and Zipessa and also play the reverse of that exacta in case Avenge finishes second.

RACE 10 - MY DEAR GIRL STAKES | 2YO Fillies | 1-1/16 Miles

Larryandpearlslucy (30-1): Authoritative debut winner at Mountaineer over even money rival is bred to go long and gets confident placement from barn that’s 31% first-time going long. Long pedigree and pole position; consider exotics slot only at huge odds.

Sweet Tooth Haven (5-1): Trainer Gold said taking her out of her best speed game in Susan’s Girl was a mistake. Fastest on Pricci Energy and Thoro-Graph scales and will be on engine from inside post. Improvement expected.

Katinka (15-1): Had no excuses when second vs. maidens last out, albeit colts, and barn is profitable with stretch-outs. Dynamics put her between a rock and hard place.

Hello Juliet (20-1): Finished well too late for 4th in bulky Desert Vixen matchup behind undefeated favorite here. Owns stretchout pedigree, good spacing, and solid works at GPW base.

Dude Fantasy (6-1): Earned competitive PER in MSW debut, has two-turn pedigree, and returned in nine days for first of three works for this; Tyler on re-ride for top juvenile connects.

Surprise Wedding (10-1): Trainer Fawkes took complete base on balls vs. maiden claimers in very educational winning debut; ears pricking and geared down at finish. Way up in class and distance but showed high promise. Check replay for yourself.

Katira (20-1): Finished evenly in both lifetime starts while never threatening to break maiden. Good connects but extremely tall task here.

Stormy Embrace (12-1): Placed gamely behind today’s favorite despite racing greenly while wide in deep stretch in sloppy 7-furlongs last out. Had purposeful and solid mile breeze for this at GPW base.

Grandma Maria (30-1): Beat 11 rivals while making two moves on the lead, proving much the best before coming back with very sharp breeze 7 days later. Win came at $16K maiden-claiming level, however.

U S Diva (8-1): Had tough trip on sealed wet surface in Susan’s Girl going 7 furlongs following game placing behind favorite in Desert Vixen prior. Has the right style but a little light on two-turn family.

Fleet Dude (12-1): Snatched victory from defeat’s jaws in two-turn maiden breaker on turf in Indiana last out. Super trainer Cox has [4] 2-1-0 slate shipping here and is field’s lone starter with two two-turn runs. Attracts Cornelio; very interesting.

Stop the Drama (30-1): Stretches out from two turf sprints for low profile outfit that’s 4-for-12 making route debuts and also is 2-for-5 with second-Lasix runners. But unable to handle maiden claimers last out.

Cajun Delta Dawn (2-1): Four-for-four lifetime, has versatility and a bulldog refuse-to-lose heart. Seeking to become only second filly to sweep filly series [Awesome Feather]. Has top connects but post an absolute killer here. Need closer to 3-1 for straight play.
