Key Bets & Races for Saturday, January 14

Marshua's River Stakes - Race #6 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 2:30 PM ET

Oddly enough, Dickinson didn't try turf until her eighth career start last September, but took to the sod like a duck takes to water, winning off by four lengths. Showing that to be no fluke, her next start was as easy of a win, with a career best 106 Equibase figure, just a few points from the 113 figures Isabella Sings earned winning a pair of similar Grade 3 stakes of the 110 figure Sandiva earned winning this race last year. Likely to be sitting off Isabella Sings in the early stages, Dickinson looks very capable of keeping her perfect record on turf intact, at decent odds, as she opens at 9 to 2. Sandiva (3/1 morning line), Isabella Sings (9/5 morning line)and Sea Coast (7/2 morning line) all must be considered contenders for exacta and trifecta tickets but the value for second lies in using Lobelia (20/1 morning line) and Elusive Million (12/1 morning line). Lobelia has run just 9 times on grass and has won five. Her last three races have yielded "A" efforts, the last two over the track and the most recent with Lanerie up and riding back. She'll be coming from last but passing a lot of these late. Elusive Million returned from four months off and made vast improving off her U.S. debut last month when second, Leparoux riding for the first time and back today. She's another likely to be in the middle of the track late and moving well.

Bet Dickinson to win at odds of 9 to 5 of more, a KEY BET on the day.

Play an exacta of Dickinson over Lobelia, Sandiva, Elusive Million, Sea Coast and Isabella Sings

Play a trifecta consisting of Dickinson over Lobelia and Elusive Million over Lobelia, Sandiva, Elusive Million, Sea Coast and Isabella Sings. (Cost is $4 at the $0.50 level)

Key Bets & Races for Saturday, January 7

Ginger Brew Stakes - Race #9 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 4:03 PM ET

In a wide open 12 horse field of three year old fillies going two turns on turf, there are TWO horses that are key to making a profit in my opinion. The first is Bellavais, who opens at 10/1, ridiculously high starting odds based on a more than decent (25% or so) probability to win. She has run three times and all three were solid efforts. The reason she opens at 10/1 is most likely she inherited her maiden win in her most recent start (11/9/16) via a disqualification. She's improved in every race, gets John Velazquez for the first time and has been working very well at Palm Meadows for her three year old debut. The other main contender is Party Boat, a stakes winner. She's won three races in a row, the first two her only two turf tries then the Wait a While Stakes (scheduled for turf but run on a sloppy main track) last month. Rosario rode her for the 1st time that day and rides back and she's another filly with a bright future and on a pattern for continued improvement.

Bet Bellavais to win and place at odds of 5 to 2.

Bet Party Boat to win at odds of 5 to 2 or more

Play an exacta of Bellavais over ALL and play the reverse exacta as well, which is ALL over Bellavais

Play an exacta consisting Party Boat over ALL

Roy Steele www.horsewhispererusa.com wishes one and all a Happy New Year or as they say in Scotland..."Happy Hogmanay" Where New Years Eve is celebrated with passion and spirits and horseracing.

Tampa is an excellent venue with some nice horses on show you could say its an overflow for Gulfstream Park as some trainers will bring their horses down from GP to compete.

Reccommend Win on top selection then box for Ex and Tri plus use selections for the pick 3/4/5 etc.

Weather sunny but cool for this time of year 13C. Going is fast on the dirt and turf tracks.

RACE 7: Allowances

AE VAGABOND (9-5) exits much faster races, tougher overall competition and was excellent second despite trouble in last; McGaughey profitable 21% with beaten favorites.

UNION ET FORCE (5-2) finished strongly too late following rough trip wen third in Laurel finale and probably was best. Proctor barn, 21% with shippers and LAY-3 scenarios, has come alive.

YAHTZEE QUEEN (8-1) chased the pace and understandably tired late in local debut and hails from strong turf family; improvement expected.

BONITA (9-2) has been competitive with tough rivals in SoFla. Stewart barn is profitable with 90-days+ layups and with shippers (23%).

EXXIMIA (4-1) suffered through wide trip from extreme outside post in local debut; Correas is 3-for-9 this meet through Wednesday and profitable going turf to dirt and sprint to route.

Laurel Park Pick 3 - Races 4 through 6 - Race 4 Post Time 2:00 ET

Pick 3:

Race 4: Irish War Cry
Race 5: ALL 11 horses
Race 6: Ms Locust Point

Cost: $5.50 (50¢ Pick 3)

With standouts in race 4, the Marylander Stakes and in race 6, The Gin Talking Stakes, this cheap pick 3 ticket (even if played for $1 or $2) could yield a much better profit than win bets on either of the two standouts.

In race 4, the Marylander Stakes, Irish War Cry sticks out based on his very mature win in his career debut last month over the track. He rallied from 9th of 12 to win going away by four lengths and he has improving to do off a field high 97 Equibase figure for the always strong (and red hot) Graham Motion barn.

In race 6, the Gin Talking Stakes, Ms Locust Point is as much of a standout. She finished 2nd of 12 in her debut in October after leading for the first half mile and was five lengths clear of the third horse. A little over a month later, Ms Locust Point romped by almost five lengths with gas left in the tank. She has put in two solid workouts since for excellent trainer Servis and leapfrogged over the horse that beat her first out (Squan's Kingdom, who earned a 76 figure in her win) by earning a very strong 85 figure last out, which is very likely to be improved on markedly here.

Roy Steele www.horsewhispererusa.com on behalf of all involved bringing this handicapping blog to you...

Plenty of action on the Harness track before the break for Xmas.

We have a Super Hi 5 CARRYOVER of some 500k plus.... a nice gift in this season of giving.

The pool will be paid out regardless number of winners this evening.

This wager multiplies quickly.... as only if there is one winner can the pool be won. Not so this evening.

So a handicapper can give his selections but if more than one person wagers HIS selections normally the JACKPOT win becomes void. Not so this evening though. It must be won regardless of number of winning tickets.

All exotics have a 20 cent min. the Pick 4 and 5 are seeded 50k 40k respectivley.

12 Races on tap this evening with a total prize money of 287k. 3 Trot's and 9 Pacing contests.

123Racing Pick 6 The wager alike to all handicapping contests starts in Race 7.

Who's HOT

Trainers.... Allard, Cirasuola and Henriksen are flying high. Weather is going to be perfect for racing mild temps clear skies but this time of year can change quickly.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL  lets finish the year off with some outstanding returns.

RACE 6 - Claiming - 1-1/16 Miles

GOLDEN GLINT (3-1): is 6-for-17 here, 1-for-11 elsewhere, and is a 4-time winner at the trip. Eppler has been white hot recently and is 2-for-4 with Toledo of late.

SCORCH (4-1): hasn’t started since January now makes first start for Michael Dickinson, legendary with long layups--40% effective in that scenario this year. Has been competitive with better than he meets here.

I CAME TO PARTY (12-1): was a game second in Delaware two-turner two starts back then tried stakes sprinters at Delta last out, albeit around two turns; back to reality here and owns (4) 2-2-0 record at the trip.

AFLEET WILLY (4-1): gelded 3YO is racing in career form, loves the strip and handles this trip; Carrasco aboard for three-back win.

EXOTICA: Monkey’s Medal (10-1), 10-Street Spice (10-1)

Key Bets & Races for Monday, December 26

San Simeon Stakes - Race #6 at Santa Anita – Post Time 2:31 PM PT, 5:31 ET

He Will and Holy Lute are winners at the trip and both are drawn well with advantageous outside posts. He Will gets slight preference as he opens at 6/1. He won at the trip in his only try in May and on the cut back from two turns to one (off a pair of wins) gives him a big amount of late energy so he should be rolling past the field late. That's exactly what Holy Lute did in September when winning the Eddie D Stakes down the hill at 10/1. He was overmatched in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint but back where proven has every right to resume his winning ways.

Betty's Bambino won 4 in a row when last seen 22 months ago, all downhill sprints, and has been working well. Cape Wolfe may go to post near his 15/1 starting odds and is very playable as he finished 2nd in last year's San Simeon at 9/2. Ohio got crowded badly in the stretch in the Eddie D when last seen, well regarded at 7/2. We can ignore that race and so he's got a fine shot. As for exotic bets like the exacta and trifecta, in a deep field in which a decent exacta ticket may be worth the risk, also consider Stormy Liberal, Acceptance and Richard's Boy for 2nd and 3rd.

Bet He Will and Holy Lute to win at odds of 5 to 2 or more.

Race 7: Claiming - 7 Furlongs

SEA TREATY (8-1): goes second off the layup, turf to dirt and route to sprint, good percentage and profitable moves for Gonzalez. Two-time winner at 7F and over surface, reunites with winning rider Scott Spieth.

SCHADDEI (6-1): was nailed in the last jump at 1 mile 40 yards last Saturday at this level and DaCosta is 22% profitable with turnbacks and De La Cruz takes the re-ride.

W W CONCERTO (5-2): turns back into sprint and notch a notch for Johns, who’s runners have been live at meet thus far and is profitable with shippers and with second-starters off the claim. Switch to Ron Allen, who won for the barn earlier this meet.

SPANISH PROSPECTOR (12-1): EILLO (10-1) and TALE STONE (10-1) all offer exotics value.

Key Bets & Races for Saturday, December 17

Sugar Swirl Stakes - Race #4 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 1:30 PM ET

At first glance, this six horse race may seem unplayable in terms of making a profit, because 7 to 5 favorite Stonetastic is a grade 2 stakes winner over the track coming into the race off a win. However, she only wins when she leads from the start and in this case, her having the five post, gives Sky Gold a chance to upset if jockey Jaramillo guns from the start. Two-for-three on dirt since the trainer change to Navarro, the filly is 5 for 14 overall on dirt and capable of getting the first quarter in under 22 seconds. Perhaps even if she doesn't get the lead she can win, having rallied from sixth to win going away 13 months ago. Opening at 10/1, Sky Gold is the key to profit. Dearest opens as the second choice at 9 to 5 and if 4 for 6 in her career with a trio of wins at Gulfstream in four starts so has to be considered. You Bought Her gets a good post and has a good kick. She's been first or second in half of her 38 career races on dirt and must be included on exacta tickets at the least.

Bet Sky Gold to win at odds of 3 to 1 or more.

Play two sets of exactas. The first is Sky Gold over Dearest, Stonetastic and You Bought Her. The second is Dearest, Stonetastic and You Bought Her over Sky Gold.

Harlan's Holiday Stakes - Race #7 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 3:01 PM ET

I don't like morning line favorite Keen Ice one bit as he's both winless in seven races without threatening to win since taking the 2015 Travers Stakes, and because he's a closer in a field with little pace to set up his late kick. On the other hand, Awesome Slew and Stanford could turn this race into a merry-go-round running one-two on slow fractions throughout. Awesome Slew ran the best race of his career this summer in his first race on a fast track after blinkers were added, running away with the Smarty Jones Stakes by seven lengths with a career best 116 Equibase Figure. In his next start, Awesome Slew tired to fifth after leading for the first mile in the Pennsylvania Derby. That race turned out to be a very productive race, as winner Connect beat older horses (as Awesome Slew is attempting here) in the Cigar Mile, while runner-up Gun Runner beat older in the Clark Handicap. With Joel Rosario riding and excellent tactical speed allowing him to be on the lead or just off the pace from the start, Awesome Slewcould take some beating.

Stanford returns from six months off but one before a debacle I the Met Mile he ran three "A" races in a row including a win in the Charles Town Classic with a 114 figure. He returned from six months off last winter to finish second in the Fred W. Hooper Stakes over the track so we should expect a top effort. Madefromlucky hasn't been seen since last April and may need a race as he did not fire in his 2016 comeback but that was in the Grade 1 Donn. His best race ever came at Gulfstream Park when earning a 122 figure in last year's edition of the Harlan's Holiday and as he has been first or second in nine of sixteen races has a decent shot to be competitive down to the wire.

Bet Awesome Slew to win at odds of 2 to 1 or higher

Play an exacta box consisting of Awesome Slew, Stanford and Madefromlucky

Play a trifecta key of Awesome Slew, Stanford and Madefromlucky over Awesome Slew, Stanford and Madefromlucky over Awesome Slew, Stanford and Madefromlucky and Keen Ice.

El Prado Stakes - Race #8 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 3:32 PM ET

The only horse in the field dropping out of graded stakes into this on-graded level is Reporting Star. He has run in five straight grade 3 to grade 1 stakes, winning the first of the quintet – The Appleton at Gulfstream last April. Saddling him that day was Brendan Walsh and riding that day was Luis Saez. Rested since September, back in the Walsh barn and reunited with Saez, Reporting Star's best effort is every bit as good as that of heavy favorite Heart to Heart, but his odds are much better, 8/1 versus 6 to 5 on the morning line. Heart to Heart is reunited with Leparoux, up for three straight wins from November, 2015 through this past February, including two stakes wins here at Gulfstream Park. Songsational and Go Around are both trained by Bill Mott and have races from their recent past that would make them competitive here if repeated.

Bet Reporting Star to win at 3 to 1 or more.

Play and exacta and trifecta box consisting of Reporting Star, Heart to Heart, Songsational and Go Around

South Beach Stakes - Race #10 at Gulfstream Park –Post Time 4:34 PM ET

I see that Midnight Miley has had the lead at the half-mile mark in her last four races, winning twice. However, three were on all-weather. In the one that was on turf she faded badly. Therefore I'm hoping either Cali Thirty Seven gets the jump on her to take her out of her came, or Cali Thirty Seven an rate in second as she has done earlier in her career. It's pretty apparent the five furlong turf race last month at Tampa was nothing more than a prep for this two-turn race and the jockey change to Bravo is a big one as he rode her to back-to-back wins in March and April of last year, the last of the two in an identical 100K stakes race on the course. Excilly finished 2nd a couple of months back first time for Clement and is turning a corner. Tuttapaesi won this race last year but is only one for six since and although she can win she's a poor win bet anywhere near her 5/2 starting odds. Sandiva is also likely to be overbet. Sure, she's run in nine straight graded stakes but her win prior to that came as a three year old in the fall of 2014. Neck of the Moon can be used for second on exacta tickets played.

Bet Cali Thirty Seven to win at odds of 3 to 1 or more.

Play an exacta of Cali Thirty Seven, Excilly, Tuttapaesi and Sandiva over Cali Thirty Seven, Excilly, Tuttapaesi, Sandiva and Neck of the Moon.

Winter Challenge Stakes - Race #9 at Los Alamitos –Post Time 7:28 PM ET (4:28 PT)

The race becomes a bit more interesting because nine have shown up to face California Chrome in his last prep before the Pegasus World Cup. Not that many have much chance of upsetting, most being claimers or claiming types happy to get the $10,000 guarantee just for leaving the gate. However, there is a small shot at an upset with Avanti Bello and some money to be made in the exacta and trifecta. Avanti Bello is a four year old who may not have peaked, coming off a career best effort with a 113 Equibase figure. To put that into perspective, Chrome's last four figures are 122, 121, 111 and 120. Chrome isn't giving away much weight either so the only chance Avanti Bello has is to be on the flank of Chrome at the 1/4 pole and try to move with that one to the wire. Point Piper will likely be the second betting choice but except for his Longacres Mile win last August, which he didn't come close to repeating before or since, he may not be much.

Bet Avanti Bello to win at 5 to 1 or more (a token win bet).

Play an exacta box consisting of California Chrome and Avanti Bello

Play an exacta of California Chrome over Howdy, Point Piper, Ain't Misbehavin', Lucky J Jane and Avanti Bello

Play trifectas as follows:

California Chrome and Avanti Bello with California Chrome and Avanti Bello with ALL

California Chrome and Avanti Bello with ALL with California Chrome and Avanti Bello

Roy Steele horsewhispererusa.com brings the picks for tonight's Harness racing card at Woodbine.

The Super Hi 5 has had a nice carryover and if still alive it will be nudging towards that 3/4 Million Dollar mark.

All exotics have a min wager of 20 cents The Pk 5 and Pk 4 are Guaranteed to the tune of 40k and 50k.

Plus Race 5 the 123Racing Pick 6 wager, the wager alike to all handicapping contests STARTS.

Some sad news this week two of Thoroughbreds finest jocks passed away. Garrett Gomez who was realativly young and remembered for his colossal ride against Zenyatta and the whole American public in the Breeders Cup Classic.

I covered that race live that day and what a ride he gave Blame taking advantage of Zenyatta's off the pace runs. Kept him to his task and won with a gutsy effort. Also Walter Swinburn the English jockey sadly passed away at 55. He had struggled with the harsh weight regime over the years. Who can forget his efforts on Shergar in a record breaking year. He was only at Saratoga this year watching some of his horses run. Both will be missed sorely RIP guys.

Weather will be cold with possible snow showers.

Some good racing on hand this evening with lots of wagering opportunities with some nice prices.

Race 10 the big carryover goes first five home min wager 20 cents. You can do a Quik Pick in this race and hope for the best. Happy Xmas to someone folks.
